140. Holy Spirit, Comforter

1. Holy Spirit, Comforter,
Lord of love and power,
O’er us now and evermore
Thy good graces shower.
Sinners may unworthy be
Of Thee, Holy Spirit;
Yet who seeks Thee fervently
Shall Thy light inherit.

2. O inspire us mightily
And most richly bless us;
Let each heart assured now be
That Thou dost possess us!
Speech and silence, pleading, prayer,
Thoughts deep hid inside us, -
All these by Thy power prepare,
Show that Thou dost guide us.

3. Yet the Lamb’s most precious blood
For all men was given;
Therefore, Thou our highest Good
Was poured out from heaven.
When assembled were Thine own,
Their petitions telling,
Thou wast seen upon each one
With Thy power dwelling!
